User Reviews about Pawz Dog Boots (X-Large)
I have a large German Shepherd mix who regularly stomps through my garden and drags the dirt and mud back into the house with him. He also runs alongside me on my bike, which similarly results in some very dirty paws. These paw covers work great and surprisingly hold up well under normal everyday use. I did try running my dog with his boots and was pleased to see that they stayed on and held up until the very end of the exercise, at which time his nails began poking through the rubber.
My only complaint is that it is fairly difficult to put the boots onto my dog's paws. It's something like putting a rubberized swim cap on your head, only the dog is far less patient with it. That said, the time spent getting the booties on him is worth the time saved in cleaning up the mess from dirty, wet paws on my light beige carpet. -- Keeps the mud out
These boots are perfect for my Saint Bernard mix. When it snows she has trouble keeping traction on our deck. Snow also builds up in her paws, causing pain and difficulty walking. With the boots she has none of these problems. Basically, she now runs in the snow like a pup again. The boots are very durable, and look like very thick large balloons. My dog happily waits while I put them on her. All in all, for the price I HIGHLY recommend the Paws boots. With 12 in each pack, the supply should last you several months. -- My dog loves snow again!
I like the concept & the way these boots are made & how they work. The only problem is I need a bigger size for my mastiff. The X-Large are the biggest ones but I have a huge dog. When I do put them on my dog so he can go out into the ice & snow (I live in Alaska) to potty, he does not slip & they work very well. I have hard wood floors & ceramic tile floors & they work great on these types of floors to keep him from slipping too. I have to remove these boots though within about 15 minutes after putting them on as they are too tight for his big feet. They leave a line on his feet around the opening after removing them kind of like if you put a tight rubberband around your wrist. Size wise, he's 36 inches at the shoulder & weighs 220 LBS. The span or width of this boot would need to be 1/2 to 1 inch bigger & possibly 2 inches longer with a wider opening to fit my dog properly. If they start making a bigger boot, I will gladly buy it as they work wonderfully to keep my dog from slipping on my floors & down my stairs outside. -- Pawz Dog XLarge Boots - too small for my mastiff :(
I have no idea why it lists over $30 for these boots... they are usually around $19 Cdn for a package of 12. I started using these on my Saint Bernard last year. I used to just try to walk my dog in the clean snow beside the road instead of actually on the sidewalk: here in Montreal the city uses calcium, and people put salt and all sorts of other deicers too, AND we have sharp tiny broken gravel. But now I have a child and am pushing a stroller, we have no choice other than to walk down the cleared sidewalk, and my dog was holding her feet up in pain from the salt.
They do sell leather and fabric dog boots, but for an Xtra Large sized dog they can run $50-$80 a pair... and your dog runs across the park in huge snow banks once, and comes out with just three boots, you are out of luck.
Enter these fantastic PAWZ dog boots... 1) they are inexpensive. 2) they come in packs of 12: if you lose one, no problem. I keep an extra always in my pocket in case of damage or loss 3) they are natural rubber and biodegradable. If you lose one, it will break down naturally 4) they are waterproof and won't get all soggy and horrid, taking hours to dry with salt stains 5) as they are thin, the dog can feel the ground properly, and they stretch over the dog's ankles so they don't fall off or let snow inside.
The only downside is they ARE thin natural rubber... think a very thick resistant balloon, so they do wear out from friction on the ground, can get torn on sharp gravel or twigs. Since they are like balloons, they don't have a "right side" like a heeled bootie, so I just flip one with a tear underneath upside down so the tear is on top of her foot and we are good to go again. I find they tend to last anywhere from a day (if you are unlucky with a snag on a branch) to three weeks. I bought a box of12 last Christmas and finished the box in March. I did buy a new box to make it through April (I am in Montreal, we still have slush and snow then!) and wore out only one or two of the second box.
Being only $20 for 12, they really are a bargain for the protection gained. Not only are they good for ice (they are nonskid, being rubber), snow, slush, deicers, they are also good for protecting paws that have bandages. When we accidentally clipped my dog's toenail too much, we put on one of these and it kept the blood off the carpet til it healed.
I highly recommend them over expensive 4-packs of leather booties, esp if you walk your dog in salty slush, or deep snow where they would get wet, stained or lost. -- Protect your Dog's Feet! Fantastic!
